Hi everyone, Class 8 have been so busy over the two weeks.
First up, we had an amazing “Impact Week” after the Half Term break – celebrating El Dia de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead).
As part of the week we set off fireworks and made firework art using powder paint. We also made Calaveras (Skulls) to celebrate the week:
We had a fantastic week learning all about this Mexican tradition and it was topped off with a fantastic visit from Senora Oliver. Mrs Oliver taught us how to dance – Mexican style!
Last week we looked at poetry inspired by our fireworks. We chose to form our poems using the concrete method. Everyone was so impressed with the results:
Congratulations are in order for Aimee who was our “Reading Champion”. Aimee is also an enthusiastic member of our Reading Gladiators club and has taken a keen interest in our new Reading Vipers weekly lessons:
Finally, please have a look at our library questionnaire to help further improve this fantastic facility: http://www.sjsb.co.uk/parent-library-questionnaire/
Well, what a fantastic day we had on Wednesday for ‘No Pens Day’ 2017.
We started the day off by challenging ourselves to complete our spellings using lollipop sticks, pipe cleaners and digital graphics.
In maths we made physical number lines by ordering ourselves in order of our height. We also explored other ways of ordering too.
In our English lesson we read and explored the poem ‘The Sound Collector’ and then performed it to the rest of the class – we had lots of fun with the sound effects!
We utilised our computing slot by looking for reviews of our favourite films and comparing negative and positive responses. Most of us can now confidently log on to the school computers and find our way around a search engine.
In other news, we are happy to have our ‘Reading Gladiators’ for 2017/18. Stay tuned for more information and updates…
Last Friday we were lucky enough to get outside and do a science investigation on sound waves. Check out the picture!
Another amazing week over in Class 8H, Mr Holden and Miss Blinkhorn are looking forward to seeing your homework next week!
Have a lovely weekend.
Class 8H have had a fantastic first 3 weeks of the school year.
Highlights include the ‘Wonderful Wheels’ trip to Bury Transport Museum where we enjoyed a journey on a steam train and a craft activity.
We have been exploring sound in our science lessons and will soon be making a movie as part of our investigations.
We are really enjoying our sessions with Commando Joe’s too.
Stay tuned for more updates! There may also be a guest appearance from our Caritas Bede’s Buddy ‘Bella’.
